Well, it has been awhile indeed. This place has changed a lot. Well, a lot of stuff is still the same. But it's a bit easier to navigate. My online art presence has been pretty empty so here it is getting filled up. But actually I've been hit up with commissions both here and real life anyway without much activity, so that makes me feel good. :D

So what's been going on with me? Not much, just trying to survive Grad school plus a full time job, and find time for arts and writing. Lo and behold, I'm still sane! :D Nah, it's not too bad. I am working on a webcomic which I shall hopefully reveal details about soon, and I'm looking forward to Nekocon once again. I had a table at Anime Mid-Atlantic this year, which was a lot of fun.

So let's catch up on a summer's worth of movie reviews!

Fast and Furious--Interesting, fun, great to see my favorite characters again.
Star Trek--Amazing, brilliant, KIRK. :D :D :D
Transformers 2--Fun, story--eh, could use some work.
GI Joe--VERY fun, could watch again and again.

So yes, much fangirling for me. I'm a Trek fangirl when it comes to Kirk (both old and new) so I was very pleased with Trek. I think I waited more eagerly and longer for that movie than Dark Knight! (Eh...maybe.)

And on the Batman front, I'm a little annoyed by the whole...Bruce being..."dead" thing. More like annoyingly gone. The whole reason I read comics (not the whole reason...okay, mostly) is to read stories about BRUCE WAYNE. So guess what? No Bruce Wayne, no money from me. >__> I have been continuing reading the Superman-Batman comic cause that's coming along just fine. I wasn't really upset when they "killed" him off. I didn't like Batman RIP much either.

Ugh. I needs me some good comic stories. Where are you!?

So thus ends that rant. :XD:

I guess I'm in just one of those moods, but I'm aching to churn out more art but am stifled somehow. Every time I see a comic, I'm like, "I need to be doing this!" But then when I actually get down to it I never quite finish them since I know that in a few months I'll be like, "Bleh, what is this, I can't believe I wrote that!"

I've been so busy writing my novel(s) that I feel that I've neglected my art. You know that thing, if you don't use it, ya lose it? I haven't penciled in forever, but there is a bit of convenience in just grabbing the tablet and going to town in photoshop. I've been addicted to painting even though I hate the way I do it. I guess my muse is being emo or something...O_o Considering that Batman's usually my muse, that might be quite accurate. I haven't really felt like doing a Batman piece lately cause eeeeveryone and their sister is doing one. Nothin' wrong with jumping on the bandwagon and all, and I'll probably do a DK piece eventually, but meh.

And every time I see a lovely background or something done in perspective--I grit my teeth cause I would love to be able to do that...I need practice I guess but still...I've practiced so hard doing human anatomy and human proportions that now that I've finally gotten a handle on such things I realize there's still a lot left I've got to learn.

Like, should I concentrate on the stuff I'm good at and just draw that, and master it? Or should I put up with the training wheels and fall down A LOT in order to be able to ride through the neighborhood anywhere I want to go?

I guess I'm just saying that I wish I could make a masterpiece...but I don't have the patience to sit down and finish it...Bah.

Anyway I have a little bit of free time on my hands between now and when school starts again--Graduate school, mind you, so I probably ought to treasure this time--I am interested in drawing anything and everything*. So feel free to blast me with suggestions.

*  Note--actually does not mean anything and everything. I'll mostly take fanart, and stuff on a case-by-case basis. :D

Squee.

Can I get that out right now? One big squee.

I watched it in the same theater that I watched Batman Begins, and it brought back lovely feelings of nostalgia. Well that was mostly because I worked there back then and I could watch Begins whenever I wanted...

But yes, it was THAT good. I know I'd probably say that even if it was a bad movie but fer serious, it did not dissapoint and I was thoroughly engrossed--which is hard for me to do. I've studied too much film stuff for school and with most movies I see it's near impossible for me not to back mentally up and gauge the story, see where we are in the plot and wonder how many minutes are left in the thing. I can easily pinpoint the inciting incident, act 2 turning point, climax, etc. Not with this movie--I was entertained to the very last minute of it and had absolutely no idea where I was in the 3 act structure. Of course this is coming from the director of the Prestige so he's really good at manipulating the structure but still, I was really impressed that I couldn't even tell when the climax was which is an easy thing to do in even more intricate movies.

Okay now for MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD, this is your last and only warning. :D

SPOILERS--

1...

But I agree with what everyone else says: this movie is majorly dark. They're not kidding when they call it Dark Knight. It's so depressing that halfway through I figured there was no way anything could possibly get better, that was that. Even though I knew that somehow the good guys would win in the end cause it's a superhero movie, I had no idea how and I wasn't even coming up with ideas how they could--I just knew that they were going to have to pull something off and I was just along for the ride.

Some predictible things:

1. I saw Rachel's death a mile away. There's no way one of Batman's girls could make it through two movies and survive. Sorry Rachel, but your number was up. I also thought that Bats wasn't really all that broken up about her death. I think he really missed Katie and didn't care much about Maggie...LOL. XD I honestly thought that if a girl that close to Batman died he'd lose it. He lost it more over Gordon than with Rachel. I at least wanted to see more mopey Emo scenes than just that one. I understand that he had no time to mourn though, he should have done a little more--maybe put the arrowhead on her grave or something. But this is the first time in a superhero movie the hero wasn't able to save the girl. That's pretty dark right there. And I think it was just luck. I think it was actually no one's fault. And that's probably the point they were trying to make.

But now with her out of the way, we can now see *cough* Selina *cough*...

2. Gordon's life. I was like--he wasn't made commissioner yet. They wouldn't do that big of an upheval in the Batman universe now, would they? This isn't Superman Returns! I figured they might be tricking someone and he faked his death, I honestly thought that maybe he was saving his own skin since he knew he might get targeted.

My favorite scenes:

1. Good Cop Bad Cop: Just seeing Batman appear suddenly behind the Joker was pure win. I really liked their scenes together throughout the movie, something about seeing Batman fight the Joker the way it SHOULD be from the comics and talk like they do in the comics is just...perfect. They got everything right, even down to their last conversation about how neither could kill each other. I thought though that Gordon would talk Bats down from killing Joker like in the comics. It would have fit even more perfectly but I guess Gordon was busy at the time.

2. Batman's eyes: They gave him the white eyes! FANGIRL NOSEBLEED. XD I can't believe they pulled that off!

3. Batman always gets his man, even if he's halfway around the world. Nuff said.

4. Two Face's Face: Just like in the cartoon and comics! I was so impressed. It was freaky though--I would NOT want some sensitive little kids to see that.

5. Random Bruce motorcycleness: It was random when Bruce went out on that motorcycle in broad daylight and nearly got shot at in the window, but I think they needed more Bruce time in the movie since he didn't get all that much. Anyway I thought he looked cool. :XD:

6. Random Scarecrow cameo, yay!

7. Lol-doggies-as-Bat-warning: I thought Batman was gonna keep one and name it Ace.

8. Bruce's Brains: We finally get to see him be as smart as he is in the comics and cartoons. I guess since they freed up his character development (all wrapped up in Begins) we can now see how good he is at forensics, detective work, and that he can actually invent stuff, and his toys aren't necessarily all made from Fox.

Some thoughts on Joker: They did him right, that's for sure. Scarily right. I've never been that creeped out by any comic book villain evar. He was seriously scary. And the thing with the mouths and the knife freaked me out big time--I had my hand up ready to shield mine eyes, I was so sure they'd show something gristly! He was scarier in the beginning and got funnier towards the end, and they were probably going for that, fear before humor. I thought they were going to go totally humorless and I'm glad that there were some funny moments. I thought Bruce was funnier in the first movie (I got more laughs out of Begins than in any of the Spidermans combined) and I think he was more serious in this one to contrast with Joker. (Why so serious indeed!) Some of the lines were really creepy cause of Heath Ledger's death though.

Some thoughts on Harvey Dent: I like! He grew on me as a character a lot and even though we alllll knew what was going to happen I really didn't want it to by the time it came around! (Okay, maybe I did, cause I wanted to see Two Face, but you know what I mean.) He honestly seemed like a really good guy and very likable. You only got to see a tiny bit of his dark side, but I'm glad they showed that because it would have made his transformation to Two Face really jarring. I was wondering how they would show how he went 'crazy' and they did it really, really well. He was mad with grief from Rachel (which is what Batman should have been, but ah well) and also mad with the pain probably. I knew that he wasn't gonna stick around for the next movie as soon as I saw the Two-Face part of his 'costume', his charred suit melted to his skin. No way that was gonna keep for another year. XD Besides if we're going the realistic route, he'd get ridiculously infected from that big of an open wound. It was still creepy seeing the cartoon scarred side translated over to real life.

Some gripes:

Okay I have very few! One is: MOAR BRUCE PLZ. He really didn't have much character development in this one, and I understand that was the point of the first movie and the second he had developed quite a bit already. They spent more time on Harvey Dent and his development and that was okay, but I missed more Bruce. I think Batman had more screentime than Bruce, which was nice because in the first it was the opposite. Also that thing with not mourning Rachel enough kinda got at me.

Secret identity's for chumps! I thought Bruce was really lazy with his secret identity in this movie. A lot of people saw him act not-very-Bruce-Wayne-like and he kinda didn't care. The smuggler plane in particular, I have no idea how he would explain that. Maybe he got on another plane from that one? I understand the part with Rachel's death, he was too distraught to care if someone with a telescope randomly saw him in the penthouse...though I wonder about window cleaners...>__> I thought it was funny when he wrestled Dent and stuffed him in a closet and used his Batman voice. Maybe Dent didn't notice or something...but it's really cool to see Bruce "turn into Batman" without the costume. Spiffy.

Two Face's Two-Faceness. They really didn't play too much up on the duality thing or at least didn't rub it in your face. I wanted to see him literally talking to himself, good side fighting with the bad. But once he went bad, he went bad and that was it. I think they were were contrasting more of his former life vs. his new one (half dead). And he didn't truly have a split personality in the end, he had just gone off the deep end. I wanted to see him comparing himself more with Batman's duality, but I guess they already did that a lot with Batman Forever and didn't want to play back to that...but still. I wanted some crazy Two Face chatter. XD

Also no Babsie? I wanted to see Barbara aka future Batgirl but they kept hiding her face. Sneaksy they are.

Moar Alfred too plz. He wasn't shown that much.

I thought the ending really interesting, the point they made about the good in people vs. the bad. And Bats' anti-heroic sacrifice definitely got the cogs in my head turning. Even though they were making the point about how ruthless he was and how he wasn't the traditional hero, they already showed exactly how far he would go and I thought it actually made him more of a hero to take the rap for Dent. By sacrificing your heroic status and placing it onto someone else and taking the blame for them, does that make you more of a hero? O_o Whoa...deep. XD Anyway it helps him out in the end cause now the criminals will think that Batman kills and they'll get even more afraid, cause they were starting to see his rules (especially Joker) and know that he wouldn't kill him and it made them braver. The cops are always chasing Bats one way or another so it wasn't anything new for him. Like Gordon said, he can take it. I liked the ending monologue about him being the protector. I squeed.

Ah, I must watch this movie again. It's kinda sad now that the waiting is over. But Batman's back! Yay!

Okay, you might be able to tell, you just might, that I'm a big anime and Batman fan. :XD:

Put those two together and you have something that I can't stop watching!

(Okay, so maybe I've been waiting for a Bishie Bruce for a long time...)

I rented the DVD (cause I couldn't wait to buy it) and it really was awesome. It WAS very reminiscent of the animatrix, especially the first short. So I dubbed this DVD the "Batmanimatrix."

My favorite shorts were Field Test and Working Through Pain. Field Test was steampunk in style including Batman's costume. I thought he looked kinda like a Pokemon, the way his helmet was shaped. :XD: "I choose you, Batman!" My brother said it was more like a bird, and I agree. It's a really interesting take on his design. And I DID think of that hairstyle he had before, I had that one dream that he had a modern hairstyle and I even drew it lol! I think the one I thought of was a little longer but still. To see it in 'real life' was too cool. Thanks for reading my mind anime peoples! :XD:

Working Through Pain was decidedly a bit emo, lol, but really cool. It showed Bruce's 'will' again and I liked the scene at the end [SPOILER AHEAD]

where he fought and got hit in the head with a beam of wood and didn't even move. So hardcore!

[/END SPOILER]

The other shorts were cool too but I liked the character building ones the best. The last one, Dead Shot had really great action that was like a comic book fight come to life.

Anyway as you might now my fangirl tendencies are running rampant with all they have received from this dvd not to mention the mere fact that by watching this dvd it means that the MOVIE IS COMING this WEEK! EEK I will explode if I can't see it soon! :XD:

Bishie Bruce...

ARGH.

I can't stop thinking about it! =^____^=
